I would like to discuss the following passage, taken from the Mettasutta:
"145. Na ca khuddamācare kiñci, yena viññū pare upavadeyyuṃ;
Sukhino va khemino hontu, sabbasattā [sabbe sattā (sī. syā.)] bhavantu sukhitattā."
These are my problems:
khuddamācare --> khuddaṃ+samācare?
Sukhino va khemino --> Sukhino vā khemino? Or rather va as enclitic shortened version of iva after long vowels? I would prefer the first explanation since I wouldn't know how to translate it otherwise.
sukhitattā --> sukhita+attā. I assume my analysis is correct but it's quite an unusual choice of words.
This would be my translation so far (the brackets depict an optional addition, the square brackets a required one):
Not even something small may one perform, so that learned/wise (people) want to criticise others.
